1941 - Transferred to the Provisional Parachute Group at Fort Benning, GA and was assigned to newly formed Parachute Communications School where he wrote four manuals on land navigation and radio communications.  He received a commendation for his effort.

 08 November 1941 - Parachute Badge was awarded by Major Robert F. Sink, Commander of the provisional Parachute Group.

08 November 1942 - SSgt. Jack Pogue 885620 assigned to HHC 2nd Bn 509th PIR  from Moriarity, NM participated in Oran, North Africa assigned to Plane 1 Seat 7 Combat Weight 252 lbs

Jumped at Youks les Bains

He received a battlefield commission from Col. Raff to 2nd  Lt. while in North Africa.  First NCO in the 509th to do so.

Assigned as Battalion Adjutant

15 August 1943 - 1st Lt. Jack Pogue O-885620 HHC 2nd Bn 509th PIR 27-Aug-40 15-Jul-43 GO8 Awarded Good Conduct Medal, 3yrs svc Formerly SSgt.

September 1943 - Was wounded in the eye, arm and stomach as a result of a German hand grenade and was captured along with Yardley at Avellino.
