Community: 1SG Rasberry’s contribution to the 1st Battalion (Airborne) 509th Infantry Regiment cannot be overstated. He was a key factor in laying the foundation for the Battalions First Combat Deployment since WWII. During the deployment he led over 60 combat patrols preventing insurgent activity and terrorist attacks. He used intuitive and aggressive patrolling techniques which resulted in the success of all missions and prevented the loss of coalition lives. As the 1SG of Able Company, the last position he held with the 509th, 1SG Rasberry proved how impactful he was as a leader. Under his management, Able Company was formed into a proficient and highly successful Opposing Force while maintaining complete Operational Readiness. To this day 1SG (R) Rasberry continues to support his fellow Geronimo’s by maintaining contact, providing encouragement and in some cases the voice of reason. 1SG Rasberry was without a doubt one of the most prolific mentors to ever serve as a Geronimo.
