Major General Mark C. Schwartz

Distinguished Member of the Regiment


MG Mark Schwartz commissioned as an Armor Officer in December 1987. After serving as a Tank Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in Korea, he was assigned to Delta Troop, 1st BN (ABN), 509th IN at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. As a member of Geronimo between 1990 and 1992, then-1LT Schwartz served in various roles as a Delta Troop Platoon Leader, Delta Troop Executive Officer, Support Platoon Leader, and Battalion Assistant Operations Officer.

After completing his assignment with 1-509 IN (ABN), He attended the Armor Officer Advanced Course and the Special Forces Qualification Course. Upon completion of the Qualification Course in 1994, he took command of a Special Forces team in 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell, KY. In September 2001, then-Major Schwartz deployed to Afghanistan as the Operations Officer of 5th Special Forces group (Airborne). After his initial entry into the Special Forces community, MG Schwartz deployed 6 times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Some highlighted operational assignments include: Director of Operations, Combined Forces Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan; Commander, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan; Chief of Staff, Joint Special Operations Command; and Deputy Commander, Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan.

In 2016, Major General Schwartz was assigned as the Commander, Special Operations Command Europe at the United States European Command in Germany.
