Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Kevin D. Sharkey

Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Kevin D. Sharkey enlisted in the United States Army in April 1982. He received his Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Ga. During his 30 years of service, CSM (R) Sharkey held numerous leadership positions including Team Leader; Squad Leader; Long Range Surveillance Team Leader, Ranger Instructor; Platoon Sergeant; First Sergeant; Battalion Operations Sergeant Major; Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Garrison Command Sergeant Major, NCOA Commandant and Region Command Sergeant Major. His assignments included Installation Management Command Atlantic Region, Joint Base San Antonio (Fort Sam Houston), Noncommissioned Officers Academy, Fort Drum, NY, the United States Army Garrison Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk, Fort Polk, La; 1st Bn (Airborne), 509th Infantry Fort Polk, LA.; 2nd Bn (Airborne), 503rd Infantry, 173d Airborne Bde, Vicenza , Italy; JRTC Operation Group, Fort Polk, LA; 3rd and 1st Bns 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Div (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, KY; Long Range Surveil1ance Leaders Course, 4th Ranger Training Bn, Ranger Training Bde, Fort Benning GA.; 3rd Bn 6th Infantry, and Long Range Surveillance Det, 105th Military Intelligence Bn, 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized) Fort Polk, LA; and 1st Battalion 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC.

His military education included the Basic Airborne School, Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Air Assault School, Long Range Surveillance Leaders Course, International Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Close Quarter Battle and Close Quarter Battle Instructor Course, Instructor Training Course, Machinegun Leaders Course, Garrison Leaders Course, and the Jungle Warfare School. He is also a graduate of all NCOES schools and the Command Sergeants Major Course. CSM (R) Sharkey's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (2nd Award); Bronze Star Medal (with V device), Meritorious Service Medal (5 awards), Army Commendation Medal (5 awards), Army Achievement Medal ; Good Conduct Medal (9 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (with 1 Bronze Star), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (with Arrow Head), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (4); Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Ribbon; Kuwait Liberation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Master Parachutist Badge with Bronze Star, Air Assault Badge, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge and Expert Infantryman Badge.

CSM (R) Sharkey retired with almost 34 years on active duty on 31 December 2015 and currently lives in Leesville, LA.
