Intersection looking south to Belle Haie, Belgium - This intersection was likely check point 5 where Task Force Brewster comprised of 6 Sherman tanks from H Company 3rd Battalion 32nd Armored Regiment and A Comapny 509th PIB arrived after sunset on 23 Dec 44. From this point A Company supported by two tanks went forward to checkpoint 6 which was roughly 500 yards ahead. From chacpoint 6 a patrol was sent out to make contact with the enemy and they were reported as 300 yards south of checkpoint 6. The lead elements of the 2nd SS Panzer Division were still consolidating after the fight at Parker Crossroads further south and made no attempt to advance on Belle Haie until early morning hours on 24 Dec 44. The Brewster Task Force put up a stubborn defense and repelled multiple frontal attacks at Belle Haie. Later on the 24th Brewster Task Force was reinforced with the green C Company 289th RCT.
Intersection looking southwest toward Odeigne, Belgium - Finally late in the evening on 24 Dec 44 the 2nd SS Panzer Division overran a small force of American Sherman tanks in the town of Odeigne. The Germans advanced northeast along this road from the town of Odeigne in the distance to this intersection with a captured American Sherman Tank in the lead. Unable to defend Belle Haie position and the checkpoint 5 intersection, Task Force Brewster was cut off from withdrawing back to Manhay.
Intersection looking east to Malempre, Belgium - Task Force Brewster finally recieved word late night on the 24th to make their way back to friendly lines by way of Malempre. Four tanks set out with A Company 509th PIB and several trucks. Two of the four tanks were hit, unable to manuver the remaining tanks and vehicles off the narrow roads the remaining vehicles were destroyed in place. The most seriously wounded were left in the trucks and the remaining tankers and A Company set out on foot to make their way back to friendly lines.
