00 Apr 2012 - SSG Thomas Fogarty, Company C, 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) of the 25th Infantry Division deploys to Afghanistan
06 May 2012 - Approximately one month into the deployment, Fogarty was commanding his vehicle when the enemy targeted it with an improvised explosive device in Ahmad-Kheyl in Afghanistan. Three other soldiers were wounded in the attack. Fogarty died after he was taken to the city of Puli Alam.
20 May 2012 - Visitation was held at St. Albert the Great Church on Bay Farm Island on Sunday, from 2 pm until 8 pm with a vigil service at 6 pm.
“As long as his heart was beating, he served as a guardian of our freedom,” said his older brother, Rory Fogarty.
21 May 2012 - The memorial service was held at Kofman Auditorium in the Alameda High School at 11 am. Brigadier General Paul LaCamera presented Fogarty’s family with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.
His survivors include his wife, Vanessa Fogarty, and their sons, 5-year-old Kellan, and Caden, age 3. His family also includes his father, Thomas Fogarty, mother Stephanie Fisher and stepfather Michael Fisher.
A memorial account has been established with Wells Fargo Bank for SSG Thomas Fogarty on behalf of his children, Kellan (5) and Caden (3). Donations in Thomas's memory may also be made to The Fisher House Foundation, Inc., In Memory of SSG Thomas K. Fogarty, 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850-5168, which assists the families of the fallen.
