SUMMARY OF SERVICE:

Graduated from High School in LeMars, IA

00 Mar 1943 - Enlisted at Plymouth County, IA - No NARA Enlistment Record.  Trained at Camp Butner, NC then at Fort Benning, GA

00 Apr 1944 - Arrived ETO, Italy

Pvt. Henry Ommen wrote several letters home.  Below are the dates letters were written and the APO address they were sent through.  I have included where the APO was located during the date the letter was sent.  This does not mean that he was at this location, only that the letter had to go through the APO on its way to the US.

     13 May 1944 - APO 464 - Capua, Italy, 5th Army

     28 Jul 1944 - APO 464 - Rome, Italy, 5th Army

     27 Aug 1944 - APO 464 - Follonica, Italy, 5th Army

     24 Dec 1944 - APO 464 - Florence, Italy, 5th Army


21 Jan 1945 - Killed in Action vicinity St Vith, Belgium.  Next of kin moved to Howard, SD while he was in the service.  2Lt. William W. Sullivan, Assistant Adjutant, HHC 509th PIB wrote to the next of kin.

He is now buried at St. John's Evangelical Church Cemetery located in Plymouth County near Craig, Iowa.  His mother had him brought home.  He was originally in Henri-Chappelle American Military Cemetery in Belgium.
