his picture is in Stand in the Door,
15 Aug 1944 - He was a replacement and jumped in the invasion of S. France on the morning of August 15th and was hit within minutes of being on the ground. Was rescued by a buddy and dragged more than a mile to an assembly area and later recovered in a hospital in N. Africa.
Later, he joined his unit and marched
up the Maritime Alps. He was unable to keep up with his unit due to the severity
of his wound and inadequate recovery time allowed him. He was redeployed as a
radio operator for the duration of the war.
About a year ago, interviewed about his experience from the time he volunteered
to serve, his training in Oregon, training in Fort Benning, and his actual WWII
experience.
